As most people know, October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This is a special time to bring awareness to the disease and raise funds and attention towards research for a cure. October should also be a time to appreciate the brave women and, yes, men who are currently battling Cancer or have successfully beaten it.

With such a devastating disease affecting both genders, side effects from medications can leave clients with some unforgettable scars both emotionally and physically. One of those side effects is hair loss. Though history cannot be erased, a new future can be created at Transitions of Indiana.

At Transitions of Indiana, we have helped many women and men restore their hair and regain their confidence after undergoing chemotherapy and battles with Cancer. We know that hair is an important physical attribute that essentially builds your confidence, so for that reason we are saying “R.I.P “to hair loss and “Hello “to hair loss solutions.

As technology advances, as do we. Transitions of Indiana offers various procedures with the latest technology and a trained staff. Our ARTAS Robotic FUE Transplant is one of the latest procedures rising in popularity for its precision, accuracy and fast recovery rate. Laser Hair Therapy is one of the most popular procedures currently, for thinning hair. We also offer customized hair replacement solutions like Sensigraft™ available for men and ReAllusions® for women, which is often the best choice for post chemo clients.

Our mission is to give every client the most natural looking hair. Breast Cancer can be a tough journey to overcome. At Transitions of Indiana, your hair restoration journey will be a much easier one, with comfortable and confidential attention from our staff of hair restoration experts.

The physical and emotional effects hair loss can have on sufferers is different for everyone. However, what many don’t realize is that they don’t have to settle for being bald or balding. At Transitions of Indiana we offer affordable and natural looking hair restoration processes to solve your specific hair loss problem. Watch Cathy talk about her experience with Transitions of Indiana here.

At Transitions of Indiana it is our goal to be clear and transparent with our clients about all of our hair restoration programs. Like many clients, Cathy was initially hesitant to come in for a consultation at Transitions. After arriving though, she felt comfortable and confident in the staff and together they chose Laser Hair Therapy treatments to thicken and restore her hair.

Low Level Laser Hair Therapy (LLLT) is a non-surgical hair loss treatment for both men and women suffering from the devastating effects of hair loss. Laser Hair Therapy is a proven safe and effective treatment for thinning and damaged hair. LLLT uses “cool” lasers to increase circulation of the blood to the hair follicle and stimulates the growth center to slow the progression of hair loss. These lasers don’t have thermal components to burn or cut, but instead they strengthen weaken hair follicles in order to help you achieve shinier, fuller and healthier looking hair.

The results Cathy has seen have been amazing. “I couldn’t be happier”, she says. Cathy went on to encourage people to understand that you don’t have to be embarrassed about your hair loss or live with being bald. At Transitions of Indiana it is our mission to make all of our clients feel welcome and we will work together step-by-step to achieve the hair YOU want. Cathy’s advice- "If you’re suffering from hair loss there is help out there and Transitions of Indiana is where you will find help for your hair loss. "

Along with Laser Hair Therapy, we also offer our exclusive ReAllusions® for women and SensiGraft™ for men, non-surgical hair systems. You’ll have natural-looking, breathable hair you can style however you choose. Transitions is also offers state-of-the-art surgical solutions such as the ARTAS® Robotic FUE hair transplant procedure. Transitions of Indiana is happy to announce the arrival of a new Laser Hair Therapy machine. The Sunetics Clinical Laser Unit. Sunetics is currently one of the most sought after non-surgical treatments, gaining recognition for its outstanding results in hair restoration. The machine is FDA 510(k) approved as safe and effective towards the treatment of hair loss in both Men and Women.

How does it work?

The Sunetics Clinical Laser Unit transmits a beam of red light energy to the patient’s scalp surface. This cool laser light, which emits the recommended 650 nanometers, has proven to increase cellular activity in the scalp. With the increase in cellular activity, the scalp is able to distribute nutrients and blood flow to hair follicles and help remove chemical by-products so a new follicle can grow.

The lower level laser energy diodes, placed inside of the open-paneled hood, are each angled in a specific direction in order to disperse the red light energy to the patient’s entire scalp at once. This dispersion technique ensures that the patient’s entire scalp surface is infused with red light energy and that all the hair follicles are receiving the designated laser energy level.

Generally, after regular treatments, results can be enjoyed in 4 to 9 months.

What are the benefits?

·         Non-surgical, non-invasive and painless
·         Convenient and comfortable
·         Can create thicker, fuller hair
·         Breaks up harmful DHT buildup (a form of testosterone that is believed to cause hair loss)
·         Can promote healing after hair transplant procedures
·         Can strengthen weak follicles
·         Slowing down or stopping the progression of hair loss
·         Relief for scalp conditions such as Psoriasis and Sborrhea

In America today, it seems that all too often a person’s “worth” is based on their looks. You need to have the perfect body, clothes, face and hair to be considered desirable and likable. This can be a problem for many who may not be able to control their physical appearance. For example, baldness in today’s society in generally looked upon as shameful or unappealing. However, there are those that can’t control this factor. This is not about the general hair loss that comes with age. This is about the autoimmune skin disease known as Alopecia Areata.

Image from zazzle.com

Alopecia Areata is caused by T-cells attacking the hair follicles causing hair on the scalp to start falling out in patches and sometimes causes hair loss on other areas of the body. Some lose all of the hair on their scalp (Alopecia Totalis) and some experience total body hair loss (Alopecia Universalis). This disease can affect anyone at any age. According to the National Alopecia Areata Foundation, NAAF, over 6.6 million people in the United States and 147 million people worldwide have, had or will develop Alopecia Areata at some point in their lives. Hair can fall out and re-grow over a few years or last a lifetime.

Alopecia Areata can be a very emotionally devastating disease for those suffering from it. Many lose their self-confidence or become embarrassed by their hair loss. In an effort to raise awareness and help communities better understand the disease, September has been designated National Alopecia Areata Awareness MonthYou can help raise money for research and provide support to those suffering. Professional sports teams and other local companies have hosted events in the past that helped raise awareness and gave donations to the NAAF. Look for Alopecia Awareness Month events this year in your community or host an event yourself.

Transitions of Indiana is removing the mystery behind this hair restoration process with a new video featuring a client named Bryan. Watch the above video to see Bryan's non-surgical hair restoration procedure from start to finish.

Bryan began losing his hair in his early 20's and would often feel self conscious when coworkers would comment on his bald spot. As time went on, Bryan decided that hair restoration was something he needed to try. His sister actually called Transitions of Indiana initially to schedule a free consultation for him. Upon arrival, Bryan felt comfortable and was impressed with the courteous and knowledgeable staff. They discussed available options then formulated an action plan for a non-surgical solution called Sensigraft™.

As mentioned in the video, once a client has chosen a non-surgical option such as Sensigraft™, the staff then will work with him or her on matching their unique hair type, color, and hairline situation. When the customized hair replacement system is ready, the client is called back to Transitions of Indiana to receive the Sensigraft™.

For the client, the process is extremely easy. It is not much different than having a hair cut at a salon. A technician will conduct any final measurements or adjustments of the client's scalp and custom hair system to determine the perfect fit. A safe adhesive is then applied to the scalp and hair system, then the Sensigraft™,  is placed and adhered to the client's scalp. This hair is then able to be cut and styled however the client desires. For Bryan, he chose a trendy look with his hair short on the sides and longer on top. For more Before and After shots, click here

It's that simple. No smoke, no mirrors, just a Non-Surgical Hair Restoration solution that appears completely natural and is every bit as versatile as the client's original hair. Each procedure is conducted by an experienced technician in the Transitions of Indiana office. There is no pain, no discomfort, and no need to worry about the results appearing unnatural or less than desirable.

Today, Bryan is a lot happier with his appearance and feels like a new person. Transitions of Indiana has helped tens of thousands of people feel that way for over 20 years by providing the latest breakthroughs in male and female hair restoration processes. If you’re interested non-surgical solutions we offer ReAllusions® for women and Sensigraft™ for men our center exclusive natural looking and breathable restoration hair systems. Transitions of Indiana try our safe, low-level laser hair therapy, which strengthens and thickens thinning, damaged hair. There are believed to be several causes of hair loss: genetics, disease, environment, pregnancy and more. However one cause that many people don’t realize is that your prescription medication may be a contributing factor. There is a long list of commonly prescribed prescription drugs that may cause temporary hair loss, trigger male and female pattern baldness and may even cause permanent hair loss. To read the full list click here. There are two types of drug-induced hair loss that can occur: Telogen Effluvium and Anagen Effluvium.

Our hair goes through growth cycles. One of these phases, the anagen phase, is the time in which the hair grows, usually lasting 3-4 years. The phase is then followed by the telogen phase where our hair “rests”, which lasts around three months. After this phase is over, the hair falls out and new hair grows in to replace it. Prescription drugs that can cause hair loss interrupt this cycle of hair growth.

The most common type of interruption results in Telogen Effluvium. This is when the hair falls out because the medication causes it to enter the telogen phase earlier than it should. For this type of hair loss it typically takes 2-4 months after taking the medication for hair to start falling out.

Anagen Effluvium is when the medication stops hair from growing during the anagen phase. It prevents the matric cell from dividing normally and producing new hairs. This type of hair loss can cause the majority of hair on the head to fall out and occurs anywhere from a few days to a couple weeks after taking the medication. It can also cause the loss of body hair like your eyebrows and eyelashes.

Hair loss and the amount of hair loss however is affected by several factors and not all medications that can cause hair loss will affect your hair. The dosage size and how long you take the medication are a couple factors that can affect the results of your hair loss. There are also some drugs that your body may be less sensitive to than others which can affect your hair loss. In some cases medications that are said to cause hair loss may cause it indirectly. The prescription Lithium is known to sometimes cause thyroid problems and thyroid problems can trigger hair loss.

You may not have been informed that your prescription could cause hair loss so it’s important to read the complete list of the drug manufacturer’s warnings and do your own research about possible side effects. Talk to your pharmacists about your medication and ask them for a list of possible side effects before you fill a prescription. If you find that your drug may cause hair loss you can try talking to your doctor if they can suggest an alternate medication that doesn’t list hair loss as a possible side effect.
