Just as clothing trends changed throughout the decades, so did the various hairstyles. Each decade has a significant hair style that makes the era recognizable. Here are some of our favorites:

The 1970’s

The Feather Cut: This notorious 70’s hairstyle was made famous by Farrah Fawcett. This hairstyle consisted of short, “feathery” layers that had a lot of volume. This was the most popular and long-lasting hairstyle of this decade.

Sleek and Straight: This popular hairstyle of the 70’s is quite opposite of the Farrah Fawcett do. This style consisted of a middle hair part with very long straight locks. This look was rocked by Cher and is making a comeback in 2017 by young women like Kendall Jenner.

The 1980’s

Big and Bleached: This iconic style gets its name honestly. The 80’s were known for its giant, blonde locks. With the help of hairspray and a small comb, anyone could obtain this look by teasing their hair. Madonna rocked this look on MTV in the 80’s.

Unconventional colors: Eccentric colors were all the rage during this decade. Celebrities such as Cyndi Lauper flaunted neon hair colors like orange, yellow and pink. Sometimes all at once!

The 1990’s

The “Rachel”: This look coins its name from the popular TV series Friends. Rachel is played by actress Jennifer Anniston and sported a shoulder-length cut full of choppy layers.

Crazy Confusion: This name encompasses many unique styles. The confusion refers to the popular styles of this decade including: crimping, feather extensions, spiked short hair, braids and the famous “leave two strands out of your ponytail” style. The Spice Girls were famous for their distinctive styles and hairdos.

The 2000’s

Beach Waves: This look became popular in the mid 2000’s when MTV aired Laguna Beach. This hit TV show went into the lives of privileged high school kids in California. That is when the world met Lauren Conrad. Conrad looked like the cookie cutter Cali girl with long blonde and tussled waves. The unperfected curls look gained popularity soon after.

Charlie Villanueva has alopecia universalis, a variation of alopecia areata. Alopecia does not define who Charlie V is. As a member of the National Basketball Association Charlie V has made extraordinary achievements. He was drafted by the Toronto Raptors with the seventh pick in the first round of the 2005 NBA draft. He went on to make the All-Rookie team in his first year as well as playing in the rookie challenge during all-star weekend. While Charlie V has accomplished a lot on the court he may have accomplished even more off of it. He has won multiple community awards through the NBA and the Toronto Raptors for his work in the community. As spokesman for the NAAF (National Alopecia Areata Foundation) Charlie V has been able to talk to many others that have been affected by some form of alopecia. One person in particular that Charlie V met was Derek, an 11 year old, who has alopecia. Seeing Charlie V play in an NBA game gave Derek the confidence to remove his hat and live proudly with alopecia and to not be afraid. Charlie V currently plays for the Detroit Pistons in the NBA.

Ryan Shazier has alopecia, but he doesn’t let it negatively affect him. Like many young people growing up with alopecia he was teased with comments such as “cue ball” and “patch”. While comments like this could’ve broken Ryan Shazier’s spirits, it instead had the complete opposite effect. Ryan Shazier has embraced his alopecia to the point where he views it as an advantage. Ryan Shazier played football at the Ohio State University before getting drafted in the first round of the National Football League draft in 2014 by the Pittsburgh Steelers at pick fifteen.

Want to look like a star?  These famous celebrities have something that makes their hairstyle unique and stand out from the crowd.

Halle Berry’s short hair pixie cut:
Not many people can pull off the Halle Berry pixie cut, but her iconic look definitely doesn’t disappoint. A lot of women may find the short hair look to be difficult to attempt, but with the right hair style you can make any look your own.

Justin Bieber’s bangs:
This look should never be attempted by anyone over the age of 16. This look should be strictly left to the teens and preteens. There is a reason that Bieber no longer rocks this look and that reason is he outgrew it. While Bieber has changed up his hairstyle nobody will forget the massive bangs hairstyle he had when he first became popular.

Marilyn Monroe’s Curls:
Marilyn Monroe’s signature curls have inspired many others to attempt to copy this famous hairstyle. Recently celebrities such as Madonna, Angelina Jolie, and Christina Aguilera have all tried to make the Marilyn Monroe look their own, but none of them can pull off the look quite like Marilyn Monroe did.

George Clooney’s Caesar hairstyle:
The Caesar is the hairstyle Clooney made all the rage while starring in the television drama “ER.” Clooney was a trendsetter in the hairstyle game as many other celebrities tried to pull off this look. Clooney has since ditched the Caesar look as he has gotten older and has went with a more conventional look that is more proper for his age. He now makes going grey stylish and distinguished with his new hairstyles.

Jennifer Aniston’s “Rachel” haircut:
The “Rachel” is the name for the haircut Jennifer Aniston’s character Rachel on the television show Friends had. This somewhat short, but sleek look grew in popularity amongst women as the show Friends grew in popularity.
